the Original philly's story

The Original Philly’s  affectionately known to all as "Philly's"has served authentic Philadelphia cheesesteak sandwiches in Seattle’s Central Area since 1995. Owner Charles Humphrie opened shop near 23rd and Union after failing to find anywhere in the city serving the iconic meal from his hometown.

Original Philly’s is committed to offering the most authentic cheesesteak in the Northwest and has always sourced their rolls directly from a bakery in Philadelphia, but they also provide a range of sandwich options including vegetarian and vegan options.   It is a local hit, and people come from all over to have the famous cheesesteak sandwich. Regular customers have included Sonics and Seahawks stars, as well as families from across the region.

In 2005, The Original Philly’s moved to its current location on Martin Luther King, Jr. Way S across from Franklin High School bringing in owners Minerva Humphrie and Guy Thomas.

This year (2020) will be the restaurant’s 25th anniversary and the owners are ready to celebrate. Although this has been a year of extreme change for us all, they are grateful to the community for their continued support and they promise to always provide their customers with the best options and there is more to come!
